What is Explain It Simply AI?

Explain It Simply AI is a Chrome extension that allows users to select any complex text on any webpage and instantly receive a simple explanation, a creative analogy and a real-world example — all generated using the Anthropic API.

Data we collect

Explain It Simply AI does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. Specifically:

• We do not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information.
• We do not store any text you select or the explanations generated.
• We do not track your browsing history or the websites you visit.
• We do not use analytics or tracking tools of any kind.

Selected text processing

When you click "Explain Simply", the extension sends the text you selected directly from your browser to the Anthropic API using your API key. This text is never routed through our servers.

No selected text or generated explanations are stored after your session ends. Each explanation is generated fresh and discarded when you close or navigate away.

Your Anthropic API Key

To use the extension, you must provide your own Anthropic API key. This key is:

• Stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API.
• Never sent to our servers — only used to make direct requests to the Anthropic API.
• Never shared with any third party other than Anthropic.

You can delete your API key at any time by removing the extension or clearing its local storage.

How the extension works

When you select text and click the button, the extension:

• Reads the text you have selected on the current page.
• Sends that text directly to the Anthropic API using your API key.
• Displays the explanation, analogy and example in a floating popup on the page.

No data is stored after the session ends. No data passes through our servers at any point.

Third-party services

The extension communicates with the Anthropic API (api.anthropic.com) to generate explanations. Your use of the Anthropic API is subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
