What is Code Explainer AI?

Code Explainer AI is a Chrome extension that allows users to select any code on any webpage and instantly receive a line-by-line explanation, a summary of what the code does, and specific improvement suggestions — all generated using the Anthropic API.

Data we collect

Code Explainer AI does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. Specifically:

• We do not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information.
• We do not store any code you select or the explanations generated.
• We do not track your browsing history or the websites you visit.
• We do not use analytics or tracking tools of any kind.

Selected code processing

When you click "Explain Code", the extension sends the code you selected directly from your browser to the Anthropic API using your API key. This code is never routed through our servers.

No selected code or generated explanations are stored after your session ends. Each explanation is generated fresh and discarded when you close or navigate away.

Your Anthropic API Key

To use the extension, you must provide your own Anthropic API key. This key is:

• Stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API.
• Never sent to our servers — only used to make direct requests to the Anthropic API.
• Never shared with any third party other than Anthropic.

You can delete your API key at any time by removing the extension or clearing its local storage.

How the extension works

When you select code and click the button, the extension:

• Reads the code you have selected on the current page.
• Sends that code directly to the Anthropic API using your API key.
• Displays the explanation in a sidebar panel on the page.

No data is stored after the session ends. No data passes through our servers at any point.

Third-party services

The extension communicates with the Anthropic API (api.anthropic.com) to generate code explanations. Your use of the Anthropic API is subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

We have no affiliation with GitHub, Stack Overflow or any other website. The extension simply reads code you select within your browser session.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
